Itinerary

We just got our itinerary for the trip. It is very exciting to see exactly where we will be going and what we will be doing. The month is packed with club presentations, site seeing, vocational visits and some rest time too. I am sure the rest time will be much needed!

The itinerary shows five vocational visits. I am really looking forward to visiting schools while I am there and sharing my experiences with my students in Bishop. It looks like we will also be doing "site visits" to an orphanage, a cancer hospital, water supply center and an elderly home.

We leave in two and a half weeks! I noticed on the itinerary that our arrival date of March 8, 2010 is Falgun 24, 2066 on the Nepali calendar. We have so much to learn...

It is hard to believe that a month from now we will be in Pokhara, Nepal enjoying the company of Nepali families.

PREPARING FOR OUR JOURNEY

Our team: Eli, Becky, Sarah, Noora and Michelle are in Lancaster, CA preparing for our adventure in Nepal. With the help of Jim and Marta, we have been getting acquainted with each other, practicing our presentations, and learning about the Rotary Foundation. During our training a few weekends ago, we visited the Tibet Nepal House, a restaurant in Pasadena, CA, which serves authentic Himalayan cuisine (http://www.tibetnepalhouse.com/). We had the pleasure of tasting daal bhaat (typical Nepal meal consisting of rice and lentils), Mo-Mo "Dumplings", Lentil Soup, Aloo Acharr (bolied potato served at room temperature), Yak, Chyamtange Dhopzi (bread baked in a clay oven), Himalayan Mashala and Butter Tea, and many more tasty Himalayan foods.

Jim has purchased our airline tickets. Our departure flight is scheduled to leave from Los Angeles on Saturday March 6, 2010 at 9:35pm, we have a lay over in Bangkok, Thailand and should be arriving in Kathmandu, Nepal on Monday March 8, 2010. On Tuesday April 6, 2010 we will return to Los Angeles. We are eager and excited for our trip to Nepal and looking forward to this unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity.
